We have taken the decision to cancel our proposed tastings in April and May following the change in the UK Government's advice on the management of COVID-19 on Monday 16th March.
We hope to reconvene for the June tasting, although we recognise that this too may not be possible. The Diary for 2020 on the SWIG website will be updated as events unfold.
Hopefully we will all get through this crisis unscathed.
With very best wishes.
All about SWIG
learn about wine
SWIG was set up to give members a better understanding of the complex world of wine and broaden their vinous experience, but we recognise that wine promotes conviviality and social interaction. This above all means that we really enjoy what we do and encourage participation by all members regardless of their wine knowledge.
What we do
Taste wine by grape variety, style, outlet or region.
Tastings are led by a member or merchant on occasion.
Full notes and a tasting sheet are provided together with bread and nibbles.
The membership cost is £24.00 per year (or £21.00 each, for two or more joint members paying together). This charge covers admin, printing and cash-flow as wine is bought in advance of tastings.
Each event usually has a charge for the evening of £20.00, although this can rise for special tastings of more expensive wines. It can fall too!
We also go out of Salisbury on occasion for dinners in the Summer and Winter. This year we are using a pop-up restaurant in Coombe Bissett village hall.
We use the St. John Suite at the Mercure White Hart Hotel
1 St. John Street
The hotel has its own parking, but you must enter the car's registration number on the iPad at reception or you may face a penalty charge.
We have our own ISO tasting glasses kept at the White Hart.
We meet on the second Thursday of the month at 7:15pm for 7:30pm unless we are on a visit outside Salisbury.
