All about SWIG

The membership cost is £25.00 per year (or £20.00 each, for two at the same address). This charge covers admin, printing and cash-flow as wine is bought in advance of payment.

Each event has a charge for the evening usually £15.00 to £20.00 though it can rise to more for special tastings such as the Bodegas Muga old Riojas and the Penfolds small parcel tasting.

We also go out of Salisbury on occasion such as our Wine and Food evenings at Howard's House at Teffont and our Christmas Party which is based on a good restaurant.

Although SWIG was set up to give members a better understanding of the complex world of wine and  be able to put wines in their context, both. historical and cultural, we recognise that there is a social side to wine This above all means that we really enjoy what we do and encourage participation by all members regardless of their wine knowledge. Even after 50 years in the Trade, I never stop learning.

learn a life-skill and meet nice people

    What do we do?

Taste wine by grape variety, style, outlet or region.

Tastings are normally accompanied by a talk illustrated with Powerpoint photos of vineyards, wineries and personalities.

Full notes and a tasting sheet are provided, as well as nibbles to soak up the alcohol. Coffee is available on request.

We usually finish by polishing off any wine that is left whilst simply socialising.

    Who administers the       wine club?

All the admin is carried out by Mark and Sue Brandon although we do welcome help and suggestions from members.

The club aims to cover its costs and does not make a profit. The accounts are independently audited.

    The venue

We use the St. Anne Suite at the Mercure White Hart Hotel

The hotel has its own parking but you can also park on a single yellow line nearby.

We have our own ISO tasting glasses which the hotel keep and wash for us.

We meet on the second Thursday of the month at 7:15pm for 7:30pm unless we are on a visit outside Salisbury.

How to join
