All about SWIG
learn about wine
SWIG was set up to give members a better understanding of the complex world of wine and broaden their vinous experience, but we recognise that wine promotes conviviality and social interaction. This above all means that we really enjoy what we do and encourage participation by all members regardless of their wine knowledge.
What do we do?
Taste wine by grape variety, style, outlet or region.
Tastings are normally accompanied by a talk illustrated with Powerpoint photos of vineyards, wineries and personalities.
Full notes and a tasting sheet are provided, as well as bread and nibbles to soak up the alcohol.
The membership cost is £24.00 per year (or £21.00 each, for two at the same address). This charge covers admin, printing and cash-flow as wine is bought in advance of payment.
Each event has a charge for the evening usually £20.00 though it can rise to more for special tastings of more expensive wines.
We also go out of Salisbury on occasion for dinners in the Summer and Winter this year being held at a pop-up restaurant in Coome Bisset village hall.
We use the St. John Suite at the Mercure White Hart Hotel
1 St. John Street
The hotel has its own parking but you can also park on a single yellow line nearby.
We have our own ISO tasting glasses which the hotel keep and wash for us.
We meet on the second Thursday of the month at 7:15pm for 7:30pm unless we are on a visit outside Salisbury.
Who administers the wine club?
From January 2020 the organisation and administration is carried out by members. There is a small Committee whose officers are:
Chair - Nick Hodgson
Treasurer - Kerry Attwell Thomas
Secretary - Paul Tyler
